Why this site never hosts Codex files

We never host Codex files, because a copy from anywhere other than OpenAI can be modified, outdated, or bundled with unwanted software, and you couldn't easily tell. Every download link on this site goes to an official source: chatgpt.com, OpenAI's GitHub repository, npm, Homebrew, the Microsoft Store, or OpenAI's Linux packages.

The short version

Codex runs commands and edits files on your machine. The program that does that should come directly from the people who build it.

What this means in practice

  • No mirrors, no repackaging, no “download managers”. We don’t offer a file to download, ever.
  • Every outbound link is labelled. Links to OpenAI and other first-party channels show “official” and the destination domain. Other external links show their domain.
  • No ad-network scripts, pop-ups, or fake download buttons. These are common on download sites and are a frequent source of malware and deceptive redirects.
  • Commands are copied from OpenAI’s docs, with a link to the page they came from and the date we checked it.

If a link on this site points somewhere that isn’t an official OpenAI or first-party source, that’s a mistake. Please report it and don’t download from it.
